BREAKOUT SESSION INFORMATION

Strengthening Tier 1 Instruction Through Literacy in the Content Areas
12:45-2:00 p.m.
Ballroom C

Description
When students of any grade struggle with the reading, writing, and communicating in content areas, learning can be more difficult than it needs to be. There are many solutions available to teachers that assist students in overcoming these barriers and accessing deep learning and thinking in Tier 1 instruction, before intervention or new programs need to be considered. This presentation will focus on motivating educators to use some of these tools while providing free resources to make this happen. Student motivation, attention to culturally responsive teaching, and social emotional learning will be considered as well. During the breakout session presenters and participants will explore additional solutions to barriers that students face in being able to access the knowledge of content area subjects and enhance their literacy skills.
